Meall nan Tarmachan is one of the easier Munros to reach in good weather thanks to a high level start point, but it is really just the start of a rocky ridge traverse which is one of the most interesting in the Southern Highlands. There is a short, avoidable scramble on the descent from Meall Garbh. Good path to Munro summit and long ridge. Meall Garbh has a narrow ridge and an avoidable rocky scramble on the descent. After leaving the ridge the route crosses rough, boggy ground until it reaches a quarry, with only traces of a path. Finish on good track. OS518.3mile / 13.3km

Arran, Clauchland Hills. A circular walk through the relatively low lying hills between Brodick and Lamlash returning via the picturesque Fairy Glen. Coastal views of Lamlash Bay and the Holy Isle to the south and Goatfell to the north. Includes an option to climb Dun Fionn, site of an iron-age hill fort and visit the remains of the chambered cairns of Dunan Mor and Dunan Beag. From Brodick Pier turn left and follow the main road to a signpost for Corrigills. Turn left here and follow this minor road until Corriegills Bridge is reached. Here turn left onto a rough track through woodland. Where the road dips down towards the last buildings follow the signposted gravel track branching off to the right. Cross the burn and go through dense forest before emerging onto a rough footpath which climbs towards the round profile of Dun Fionn. After climbing Dun Fionn follow the path to the signpost and continue up the winding path which rises and falls until the summit of the Clauchland Hills is reached. Continue westwards on the path along the crest and then gradually downhill until a forest track is reached. Turn left and follow track for half a mile to reach Dunan Mor and Dunan Beag. Retrace steps back the half mile and continue on the forest track until the main Brodick/Lamlash road at Cnoc na Dail is reached. Cross the road and follow the path to the right leading to the viewpoint. Continue on the path through the Fairy Glen and back to Brodick. May be muddy in parts.
