Part of the Pollokshields Heritage Trail, this walk provides an opportunity to consider the history of the development of the villas and tenements of west and east Pollokshields. The development was born from a desire to escape the 'filth, crime, misery and disease' of Glasgow in the mid-19th century (Pollokshields Heritage Trust 2015).This is a circular walk starting from Crossmyloof Station and ending at Pollokshaws West Station. Initially it follows the wide avenues of west Pollokshields and examines the design of some of the villas. 'The suburb contains villas by many of the most prominent Victorian and Edwardian architects in Glasgow ... the architectural styles on display vividly demonstrate the eclecticism and evolution of middle class taste' of that period (Pollokshields Heritage Trust 2015). The walk continues through east Pollokshields which 'contains some of the finest tenements In Scotland, amongst them some of the very best Glasgow Style tenements.' Other buildings of interest include fine churches and schools and 'an exuberant Edwardian baroque Carnegie library' (Pollokshields Heritage Trust 2015).There will be a stop for lunch at the Tramway which has toilet facilities and seating areas. Walkers can bring their own lunch or, if preferred, can purchase soup and snacks from the Tramway Café. En route to Pollokshaws West Station the walk passes through Pollok Estate where there will be an opportunity to stop for tea and scones at Pollok House6.4mi / 10.3km

An interesting walk starting at Whiting Bay Bowling Green. Mainly on forest track and footpath. Initially there is a steep climb to Glenashdale Falls via an Iron Age Fort. A viewing platform allows spectacular views of the falls which drop around 140 feet. A track leads from the falls to the Giant's Graves which are chambered cairns about 5000 years old. From this site there are magnificent views of Whiting Bay, the Holy Isle, the coast of Arran and the Ayrshire coast. A well-made forestry track leads up and over the hills to the south coast of Arran. There are some splendid views of Pladda and Ailsa Craig. Eagles can be spotted and occasionally basking sharks can be seen just off the shore at Kildonan. A large number of seals can be seen basking on the rocks along the shoreline. The bus takes us back to Brodick and the ferry to Ardrossan. OS696mi / 9.7km
